If you are interested in becoming an Entertainer then look no further! Keep reading to find out what’s involved in the job, and some key details on what the process looks like when becoming a children’s entertainer with Captain Fantastic UK!
First of all, most of our entertainers at Captain Fantastic come from a performance background such as acting, musical theatre or music. So, if you have experience or training in Performing Arts… that’s excellent! However, don’t panic because you don’t have to be a performer to be a children’s entertainer – you just need an outgoing energy and a passion for facilitating fun experiences for children and families! A lot of our current entertainers tend to be working performers who need flexible work to the pay the bills whilst fitting around other acting jobs. And by working as a children’s entertainer, you are also getting the opportunity to perform several times a week, which is a great way to keep yourself sharp and ready as a performer for any acting auditions that may pop up.
Working as a children’s entertainer with Captain Fantastic is a fun and rewarding job, it requires confidence, good people skills and the willingness to work independently when travelling around different venues for bookings. Other requirements to be a Captain Fantastic Entertainer include:
– A driver’s license and own vehicle
– Great weekend availability
– An up-to-date DBS check or a willingness to obtain one (we can help with this)
It can be hard work at times but it is always extremely fulfilling and an absolute joy to see how much happiness and fun children’s entertainment can create in people’s lives. Becoming an entertainer with Captain Fantastic is a fun and straight-forward process, but before you send us your CV here are some things to think about in preparation for applying to the role:
– Make sure your CV/Spotlight is up to date
– Be your friendly and positive self when drafting an email to send to Captain Fantastic UK, and remember to mention why you want to become an Entertainer!
– Practice your super-hero poses in the mirror, you’ll need them a lot when you are performing as our resident super-hero Captain Fantastic.
Once you have submitted an application, if successful you will be invited to a zoom or an in-person audition/interview. It’s a very fun and relaxed experience, we just want to get to know you and see what you can do! Once you pass this stage you are well on your way to becoming an entertainer! Next there is some training involved where you will first get to learn the Magic Show and the Super-Hero Party. This involves learning the script, perfecting the magic tricks and practicing your jokes! There will always be at least one trainer there to support you through this training and rehearsal process, and the sessions in preparation for your first party booking will be either on zoom, in person or a mixture of the two. All of our entertainer trainers are incredibly friendly and encouraging, and they are all entertainers themselves so they know how exciting but daunting it can be when learning all the material as a new entertainer.
After your training period, and once you have been signed off as a performer you are ready to book your first party! At this stage the amazing Captain Fantastic Headquarters will be in touch regarding your availability to get you booked and raring to go as an entertainer! There’s nothing quite like your first party as a Captain Fantastic Entertainer, lots of exhilaration and excitement, and hopefully a very happy birthday child! As a new entertainer it is important to keep practicing your craft and developing your skills as a performer. Some of the key skills that all exceptional entertainers have include:
– Being a precise time-keeper, ensuring that shows start and finish on time. And that all setup and pack-down time is accounted for in your schedule:
– Maintaining and looking after all of the equipment required for delivering shows and performances
– Making sure that performance standards are consistently high so that each client gets an exceptional experience
– Having brilliant communication skills, staying in contact with the client to offer support throughout the whole process of the event
– Keeping a positive attitude, and striving to learn and grow from any mistakes or challenges.
We are always on the lookout for special kinds of people to become entertainers for Captain Fantastic. You do not have to be a trained performer. If you have song and dance skills, and a friendly confidence about you, then you could be just what we are looking for! We require good weekend availability and ask that you are open to contribute to our social media and keep a good line of contact with our office. Additionally, we are looking for engaging individuals to start up, and run one of our ‘Little Stars’ Toddler groups under the Captain Fantastic franchise brand. Full training and equipment set up is provided. If you think you have what it takes, please do not hesitate to get in touch! We can’t wait to meet you!
