Fantastic Christmas Parties

Well, now that December is here, the countdown for Christmas has undoubtedly begun. And, if you haven’t done so already, it’s time to start planning your children’s Christmas party.

Kids will be excited at this time of the year anyway, and if they know Santa Claus will appear sometime in the afternoon, then the excitement can reach ear-popping standards. Because of this, it’s always a good idea to have a host of kids’ Christmas games planned to try and keep them occupied and focused on the task at hand. It’s not easy – but it can be done! At Captain Fantastic, we have a whole catalogue of great children’s Christmas party games up our sleeve. Here are some of our favourites right here:

Pin the carrot on the snowman
Yes, a festive version of the pin the tail on the donkey; this always results in lots of squealing and laughter (and that’s just from the parents!). Draw a picture of a large snowman, leaving a space for the nose. Fashion the nose out of a piece of orange card and get blindfolded kids to try and pin it on (remember to spin them around a few times first to get them disorientated). Nearest the nose space wins.

Merry memory game
A great game for older kids, the memory game involves placing 10 festive items on a brightly coloured Christmas paper-wrapped tray. This could be a gingerbread man, a bauble, a candy cane etc. Give the kids one minute to memorise them, then remove the tray. Give them each a pad and paper and get them to write down what was on the tray (without conferring). The winner is the person with the longest list.

Snowball and spoon race
Get the kids to line up into two teams, and put a washing basket full of cotton snowballs at the opposite end of the room. Arm the first two in each team with a large desert spoon, then ask them to pick up a snowball and bring it back without dropping it. Basically, it’s a version of summer’s egg and spoon race. First team back gets a prize.

Santa sack relay
A game that competitive kids love. Get the guests to form two teams and hand each team a Santa sack. Next, get lots of Christmas items, such as a tree bauble, present, Santa hat etc. and place them at the opposite end of the room to the teams. Someone has to decide what item the teams need to fetch from the opposite end of the room (there is only one of each item). The individual team members must take turns fetching the items, and the team with the most wins.

And, of course, there’s always the Christmas Freeze Dance:

@OprahDaily: “Turn on the Christmas tunes and rock around the tree. Turn the music off when the dance crew least expects it. The last person to stop moving is out. The last one standing gets a prize.”
