Easter is fast approaching, which means that it’s time to start thinking about the various ways to keep your kids entertained during their time away from school. Whether you’ve got toddlers or tweens, or something in between, you won’t find yourself short of options to ensure that everyone stays busy and occupied during the Easter period. One of these is crafting, and we can’t wait to get stuck in.
Crafting is something that most kids enjoy, so it’s sure to be a hit with the whole family. A lot of people make the mistake of assuming that crafting has to be messy and stressful – especially if you are the one who’s tasked with tidying up – but that’s rarely the case. Below, we have listed some of our favourite craft ideas for creative kids this Easter.
Decorate Easter Biscuits
Many kids like to have fun in the kitchen, and what’s better than a sweet treat they can devour? They will really feel as though their hard work has paid off when they’re tucking into a unique, personal and colourful Easter biscuit. You can do this by baking the biscuits yourself and decorating them with various icing colours and decorations. But, if you want to keep things simple, there are a lot of DIY kits available.
Handprint Bunnies
This is a great craft activity for younger children, though older kids might want to get involved too. Ask your child to trace around their hand and then cut it out, removing the middle finger in the process. This forms the top of the bunny’s head and ears. Next, bend the little finger and thumb to create two arms. Kids can then decorate the ears, add facial features and draw some feet.
Decorate Easter Eggs
Kids will surely enjoy decorating their Easter eggs and having a whole host of bright and vibrant decorations to display at home. This can be done with either hard-boiled eggs or craft eggs, held in position with an egg cup or small glass. Turn Easter eggs into animals, characters or patterns using pens or paint. You could even put some food colouring in a bowl, dye the egg, and then add your designs.
Easter Lolly Stick Basket
Using four lolly sticks and some glue, create a rectangle, add more lolly sticks across the middle of the rectangle, and various sticks go from top to bottom. This will create a crisscross design that you would expect from a woven Easter basket. To give the basket a handle, add some ribbon to create a loop from one top corner to the next. You could even add a ribbon across the front of the basket to add more colour. Once you have a basket, cut out five or six small eggs out of cardboard, and get the kids to decorate them. Finish your lolly stick basket by sticking the eggs to the back, creating the illusion that they’re tucked up inside.
Regardless of which craft idea you choose, your kids are sure to have a great time getting stuck into the Easter fun!
