Day 18 Make some Reindeer Food

Reindeer food in a bowl

With less than a week until Santa visits it’s pretty safe to say children up and down the country will be super excited. As well as leaving out the traditional Mince Pie and a carrot for Rudolph, it is becoming popular to sprinkle Reindeer food on the lawn to help guide the reindeer to your home.

Whilst reindeer might like glitter and sequins, our British garden birds aren’t so keen. In fact, it can make them quite unwell!

So why not make some bird-friendly Reindeer food this year and keep all your garden visitors happy over the festive season.

Simply colour a couple of teaspoons of sugar with food colouring and spread out on a plate to dry. You can use as many colours as you like.

Once dried, break up and mix with a handful of porridge oats.

You can then pop the mixture into a bag or a jam jar ready to sprinkle on the lawn on Christmas Eve.
