Emoji parties

From toddlers to teenagers, everyone loves an emoji. Even though the emoji movie was a bit of a let-down (sad face), kids – and parents – of all ages still can’t get enough of these brightly coloured characters. If your kids love emojis, why not use them as the theme for an upcoming birthday party?

It’s all in the icing

The key to creating a really good emoji cake is icing. Even the plainest of sponges can be transformed into a cool emoji cake with a bit of creativity and some food colouring. If you haven’t iced many cakes in the past, it’s probably a good idea to invest in some pre-made sugar paste for your bake.

If you have the time, try a practice cake a few weeks before the party so you don’t disappoint with a wonky emoji on the day. Unless you’re a budding Mary Berry, it’s a good idea to keep your emoji cake as simple as possible. Faces probably make the best cakes as they’re circular. You can simply top a standard sponge with some yellow icing and then get to work on the face using your icing tools.

If you have the time, and the patience, you can take your emoji theme one step further and impress your kids by creating a whole table full of emoji cupcakes! Give each cupcake its own unique face and let the kids pick their favourite. Alternatively, you could bake the plain cakes in advance and let the party guests decorate their own emoji cupcake as part of the birthday fun. Add a little competition to proceedings by awarding a prize for the best design.

Emoji decorations

From bunting and banners to cups, plates, bags and balloons pretty much all party accessories can get an emoji makeover. If you don’t have time to make the accessories yourself, head online where you’ll find a wealth of brightly coloured emoji party pieces.

Emoji games

Pin the smile on the emoji? Emoji bingo? So many games can be given a twist to fit your theme. How about musical statues, but when the music stops you have to pull an emoji face!

If you’re looking for something a little quieter, how about including some emoji themed crafts at your child’s birthday party. You can pick up a whole range of craft supplies at Baker Ross and get the kids to design their own emoji. Check out the Funny Face range for everything you’ll need to get crafting!

Emoji face paint

Transform your child and their friends into emojis by hiring a professional face painter for the event. As you can probably imagine, it’s pretty easy to create convincing emoji face paint. Let the kids pick their favourite designs and then take lots of photos of the brightly coloured results.
